discord file size limit

Discord file size limit.

Discord caps file uploads at 25 MB for free accounts and 500 MB even on full Nitro. Server boosts help inside one specific server but do nothing in DMs. The fix is to stop trying to push the file through Discord and send a link instead. Drop the file on quik.space, paste the link in chat, recipient clicks it and downloads the original file untouched. No re-encoding, no quality loss, no Nitro. The upload widget below is ready.

What is happening

Discord caps file uploads at 25 MB for free accounts, 50 MB for Nitro Basic, and 500 MB for Nitro.

Discord ties file upload size to your subscription. Free accounts get a 25 MB ceiling, Nitro Basic gets 50 MB, and full Nitro raises the cap to 500 MB. Boosted servers also unlock higher caps for members in that specific server. There is no plan that gets you past 500 MB on a single file.

Common workarounds

Here is what most people try first, and where each option falls short.

Compress the file or lower video resolution
Re-encode video at 720p, compress images, pack into a zip.
Downside. Loses quality. Slow on long clips. Recipient sees a worse version.
Upgrade to Nitro
Pay monthly for the 500 MB ceiling.
Downside. Recurring subscription for an occasional need. Even at 500 MB, a 1 GB file still does not fit.
Boost the server
Pay for server boosts to unlock higher caps in that server.
Downside. Only applies to that one server. Expensive for a one-off send.
Upload to YouTube or Imgur, paste the link
Re-host on a platform with no cap, share the link in Discord.
Downside. Platforms re-encode and recompress, sometimes badly. Imgur strips metadata. YouTube can take hours to process.

The cleaner fix

Drop the file on quik.space, copy the link, paste it in your Discord message. Recipient clicks the link, downloads the original file untouched. No re-encoding, no quality loss, no Nitro required. Free up to 100 MB and supports single files up to 5 GB on a one-shot upgrade.

The upload widget at the top of this page is the same one on the homepage. Drop the file, copy the link, paste it where you wanted to attach. See pricing for the full table or how it works for the three-step explainer.

What we will not do

We do not read your file. We do not train AI on your file. We do not sell your file. Every upload is encrypted in transit over HTTPS and at rest. The share ID is an 8-character random string with roughly 218 trillion combinations, so the link is practically unguessable. After 72 hours plus a 7-day grace period, the bytes are permanently purged from storage and cannot be recovered.

Frequently asked

What is the Discord file size limit without Nitro?
25 MB on a standard free account. Nitro Basic is 50 MB. Full Nitro is 500 MB. Server boosts can lift these further inside the boosted server.
Can I send a quik.space link in Discord?
Yes. Discord shows a link preview. Recipients click the link to download in their browser, no Nitro required.
Will the file lose quality?
No. quik.space stores and serves the original bytes. Discord, YouTube, and Imgur all re-encode media in different ways.
Does the recipient need a Discord account to download?
No. The link opens in any browser. Recipient does not even need Discord installed.
How big a file can I share this way?
Up to 5 GB per file. Free for the first 100 MB, $1 for 100 to 500 MB, $5 for 500 MB to 5 GB.
