How to send a 3ds Max file.

3ds Max scenes get heavy fast with proxies, textures, and high-res geometry. quik.space takes the Archive zip byte-for-byte. The recipient unzips and opens with every reference resolved.

What is a 3D Studio Max?

3D Studio Max files use the .3ds, .max extension and the application/vnd.3ds MIME type. The format sits in the 3d category. Typical files run 10 MB - 2 GB, which is well above what most email services will accept as an attachment.

Why you can’t email a 3D Studio Max

A 3ds Max scene with high-poly geometry, V-Ray proxies, and texture maps can run 1 to 2 GB. Email is not feasible.Slack, Discord, and most other workplace tools have similar caps, often around 1 GB for free tiers and with aggressive per-channel storage limits. Even when the file fits, it counts against the recipient’s mailbox quota forever.

How quik.space handles 3D Studio Max

quik.space stores the .max or .3ds byte-for-byte. The recipient opens it in 3ds Max with every reference intact (if you used Archive... in Max to bundle dependencies first). The share page does not render 3D scenes inline. The recipient downloads the file and opens it in the matching DCC.

The file lives for 72 hours by default and then enters a 7-day grace period. We do not train AI on your files. We do not share them with third parties. After grace, the bytes are permanently purged from storage. Read the full policy on privacy.

Frequently asked

Should I use Archive... in 3ds Max before sending?
Yes. Archive bundles the scene with all textures, proxies, and dependencies as a zip. Upload that zip.
Will V-Ray proxies work after download?
Yes, if they were included in the Archive bundle.
What is the difference between .3ds and .max?
.3ds is the older legacy format; .max is the modern scene file. .3ds works as a basic interchange; .max is full project state.
Can the recipient open .max in Maya or Blender?
No. .max is 3ds Max only. Use FBX or USD for cross-DCC handoff.
