How to send an AVI file.
AVI is the old reliable. It is also one of the chunkiest containers around because the spec predates modern compression. Email won't touch it, and most modern cloud drives will silently transcode it. quik.space takes the file as-is and gives the recipient a download link in seconds. Free up to 100 MB. No signup, no ads.

What is a AVI video?
AVI video files use the .avi extension and the video/x-msvideo MIME type. The format sits in the video category. Typical files run 50 MB - 4 GB, which is well above what most email services will accept as an attachment.
Why you can’t email a AVI video
AVI files are typically large because the format is old and inefficient. A 30-minute DVD rip can be 1 to 2 GB. Gmail won't take 25 MB, let alone a multi-gig AVI.Slack, Discord, and most other workplace tools have similar caps, often around 1 GB for free tiers and with aggressive per-channel storage limits. Even when the file fits, it counts against the recipient’s mailbox quota forever.
How quik.space handles AVI video
quik.space passes AVI containers through without re-muxing. Whatever codec is inside, DivX, Xvid, MJPEG, stays inside. The recipient downloads the original and opens it in VLC or any AVI-capable player. The share page renders an HTML5 video player for browser-native codecs, so the recipient can scrub and watch inline before downloading the original.
The file lives for 72 hours by default and then enters a 7-day grace period. We do not train AI on your files. We do not share them with third parties. After grace, the bytes are permanently purged from storage. Read the full policy on privacy.
Common use cases
- Send legacy AVI footage from an older camcorder
- Share a DVD rip with a family member
- Pass MJPEG AVI from a microscope or scientific camera
- Archive old AVI files to a colleague before they age out
Frequently asked
- Does quik.space play AVI inline in the browser?
- Most browsers do not have native AVI decoding. The share page falls back to a download button. The recipient opens the file in VLC, which handles every AVI codec.
- Is my AVI re-encoded?
- No. We store the exact bytes. If it is DivX in, it is DivX out.
- Will the AVI metadata stay intact?
- Yes. The original container, headers, and codec information are preserved byte-for-byte.
- What is the size ceiling?
- 5 GB hard cap. Most AVI files fit, but if you have a multi-hour MJPEG file it may exceed the limit. Split or re-encode before uploading.
