How to send an MKV file.
MKV holds everything in one container: video, audio, subtitles, chapters. Most file-sharing services either reject it outright or strip out tracks. quik.space stores the exact MKV you upload, every stream intact. The recipient downloads the same file you sent, plays it in VLC, mpv, or a modern Chromium browser.

What is a Matroska MKV?
Matroska MKV files use the .mkv extension and the video/x-matroska MIME type. The format sits in the video category. Typical files run 500 MB - 4 GB, which is well above what most email services will accept as an attachment.
Why you can’t email a Matroska MKV
MKV is the container of choice for high-quality H.264 and H.265 video with multiple audio tracks and subtitles. A 1-hour 1080p MKV is typically 1 to 3 GB. No email service in the world will carry that.Slack, Discord, and most other workplace tools have similar caps, often around 1 GB for free tiers and with aggressive per-channel storage limits. Even when the file fits, it counts against the recipient’s mailbox quota forever.
How quik.space handles Matroska MKV
quik.space stores the MKV container as a single stream and serves it back byte-identical. All audio tracks, all subtitle streams, and chapter markers survive intact. The share page renders an HTML5 video player for browser-native codecs, so the recipient can scrub and watch inline before downloading the original.
The file lives for 72 hours by default and then enters a 7-day grace period. We do not train AI on your files. We do not share them with third parties. After grace, the bytes are permanently purged from storage. Read the full policy on privacy.

Frequently asked
- Will all my audio tracks and subtitles survive?
- Yes. We do not unmux. Every track, every subtitle stream, every chapter marker is preserved.
- Can the recipient play MKV inline?
- Chromium-based browsers can play many MKV files inline. Safari and Firefox usually cannot. The download button always works, and VLC opens any MKV.
- Why is my OBS recording in MKV format?
- OBS defaults to MKV because it survives a crash mid-recording. quik.space takes the raw MKV without remuxing, so you do not have to convert before sending.
- Is there a size limit?
- 5 GB cap. A 1080p MKV over 4 hours may exceed it. Use MKVToolNix to split or re-encode.
