How to send an INDD file.
InDesign documents are notorious for breaking on handoff because the .indd is just a layout pointer. The links and fonts live in separate folders. quik.space takes the packaged INDD zip byte-for-byte and gives the recipient a clean download where every link auto-resolves.

What is a InDesign INDD?
InDesign INDD files use the .indd extension with no single standard MIME type. The format sits in the design category. Typical files run 20 MB - 1 GB (with links), which is well above what most email services will accept as an attachment.
Why you can’t email a InDesign INDD
An InDesign document with all its links (high-res photos, vector logos, embedded fonts) packaged for handoff is often 500 MB to 1 GB. Email rejects at 25 MB.Slack, Discord, and most other workplace tools have similar caps, often around 1 GB for free tiers and with aggressive per-channel storage limits. Even when the file fits, it counts against the recipient’s mailbox quota forever.
How quik.space handles InDesign INDD
quik.space takes a packaged INDD folder (Package... in InDesign produces folder with links, fonts, and the INDD) zipped. The recipient unzips and opens the INDD with every link relinked correctly. The share page does not preview proprietary design files inline. The recipient downloads the original and opens it in the matching application.
The file lives for 72 hours by default and then enters a 7-day grace period. We do not train AI on your files. We do not share them with third parties. After grace, the bytes are permanently purged from storage. Read the full policy on privacy.

Frequently asked
- Should I use File > Package before sending?
- Yes. Package collects every linked asset and font into a folder. Zip the folder and send. Without packaging, the recipient sees broken links.
- Will fonts travel with the package?
- Yes, the Document Fonts subfolder is included. The recipient's InDesign auto-loads them when opening the file from that folder.
- Can the recipient open INDD in a different version?
- InDesign does not open newer-version files in older versions. Save as IDML for cross-version compatibility before packaging.
- What about color profiles?
- Color settings travel with the INDD. The recipient's preflight will warn if profiles differ.
