Excel XLSX files use the .xlsx extension and the application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.sheet MIME type. The format sits in the document category. Typical files run 20 KB - 100 MB, which is well above what most email services will accept as an attachment.

Why you can’t email a Excel XLSX

Small spreadsheets fit in email. Large ones, financial models with macros, or workbooks with embedded charts and data, can hit 50 to 100 MB.
